TORRID TIME AT SNETTERTON

Posted by: Marty Nutt Racing Posted Date: 23/06/2009

This weekend we endured a torrid time at Snetterton when engine problems ruined qualifying and put paid to any chance of a strong result. But we put the problems behind us to take a respectable 17th place in round five of the Fuchs/Silkolene British 600 Championship.

Free practice and qualifying threw up some problems for us when the NuttTravel.com/T&G Yamaha R6 blew a engine during the final qualifying.

We  had to change the motor from the first qualifying session because it was just not quick enough, But then it rained during the second session and to top it all the new engine went bang on us. We had to revert to the original engine which really is a bit slow so it’s not been a good weekend for us.

As the 20-lap race got underway I made a good start to move up into 18th position but when Lee Jackson highsided right in front of me, I had to take avoiding action and lost ground back to 21st with it all to do once again.

Undeterred I began to make up ground and was up to 17th position on lap 13 but just as I was lining up a group of 3 riders a few yards ahead the red flags came out and brought the race to an early end. Because the race had run to two thirds distance a result was declared at 13 laps giving us a 17th place finishing position, just outside the points.

I did manage to claw my way back towards the points but then I had to again take avoiding action and that just about sums up the weekend really-but to be fair, the wee bike went OK in the race. We are due a change of luck and if things go to plan hopefully we can turn it around at Knockhill.”

Round six is at Knockhill in Scotland in two weeks time – July 4 – when I will be hoping to lay claim to a points finish to boost my position in the rider standings.

Thurxton Detour!!!

Posted by: Marty Nutt Racing Posted Date: 05/06/2009

It was a disappointing weekend for us at Thruxton on Sunday when I completed the incident packed fourth round of the Fuchs/Silkolene British Supersport championship in 21st place, well outside the points.

Qualifying didn’t go quite to plan, I qualified in 15th place which is really not where I wanted to be. I like to be running up within the top 10 but I will just have to get on with it and see where I end up."

But the race was red flagged following a first corner incident involving two of my good friends, Dennis Hobbs and Lee Johnston,  and a lengthy delay followed. Once the race got underway once again I began to make up places and was soon circulating within the top 10 in ninth position. But coming into the Club chicane I ran wide and had to run across the grass losing seven or eight places in the process.

Although I did begin to claw my way back through the back markers I ran out of time and finished the 16-lap race in 21st place.

I made a good start at the re-start and worked my way up to ninth and then made a manoeuvre coming out of Church and got a really good slipstream into the chicane. But I over braked there and lost quite a few places. I managed to picked up the pace and got back onto the group who had moved away from me.

Going into the back of the course I ran wide at the chicane which put me onto the grass dropping me right down the field and I completed the race well outside the points in 21st place.

It’s not the result I was looking for but on saying that I was happy enough with the bike and am now looking forward to the next round at Snetterton.

I'd just like to wish Denis and Lee a speedy recovery and hope they're not out of action to long.

Round five takes place at the ultra fast Norfolk circuit of Snetterton on June 21st where Marty will be seeking a top 10 result to increase his points tally and move further up the rider standings.

No Stopping Me At Donington!!!

Posted by: Marty Nutt Racing Posted Date: 05/06/2009

A front brake problem brought disappointment for us at Donington Park on Whit Monday when a poor qualifying result saw me unable to bring the Nutt Travel/T&G Yamaha home for a points finish in round three of the Fuchs/Silkolene British Supersport championship.

Throughout free practice and qualifying the bike suffered from a front brake problem, which saw me make a start from a seventh row grid position in 27th place.

Although he made progress through the back markers I was only able to end the 18-lap affair in 20th place and too far down the field to score any championship points.

We just had one of those weekends at Donington Park. We had a problem that took all weekend to resolve and to be fair, we did get it sorted for the race but being a front brake problem it was a confidence denting experience. When you are not sure whether your front brake is there or not it’s hard to race at 100% and I think come the race that was the biggest problem for me.

Although I did finish the race it’s not the result I either wanted or needed. I really want to be up there in the top 10 and scoring points to be honest. It’s been a bad weekend but it’s not as if anyone in the team was to blame, we were all trying so hard and went through everything we could to solve the problem and we did sort it for the race but by that stage most of the damage had been done.

To be honest even if I had got a good grid position the first few laps I would have been cautious because I wasn’t sure my front brake was there.

We have to put this weekend behind us and turn our attention to Thruxton where I hope to go well. I really enjoy racing there, I like a circuit with a bit of speed in it and some fast bends. We are looking forward to it and we hope to have a new engine so the wee bike should be on the pace.

It’s a quick turnaround for the team as we travel directly to Thruxton for round four of the series where free practice begins on Friday, May 29. Qualifying takes place on Saturday ahead of the 18-lap race on Sunday, May 31st at 3.40pm.

As usual the British Supersport race will benefit from live television coverage on British Eurosport 2

Lucky 7th at Oulton Park!

MARTY NU77 – OULTON PARK

After the disappointment of a low qualifying position I was delighted to complete a rain- affected British Supersport race at Oulton Park in Cheshire in a fine seventh place on May Bank Holiday Monday.

Qualifying didn’t go as well as expected and I ended up in 16th place for a fourth row grid position, but on saying that, the times were very close and another half a second would have pushed me up to the second row.

When it came to the race, I got away to a reasonable start but soon discovered a front brake problem that caused me to return to pit lane for adjustments. But the red flag halted the race which was a real stroke of luck as this allowed me to restart the race at the back of the grid rather than a lap down !!!

Tyre choice was a lottery because of the differing weather conditions and I opted for full wets in the hope the rain would return.

As luck would have it the rain did begin to fall, although not just as heavy as i would have liked it to, and those who made the wrong tyre choice began to fall back leaving me to make up places and finally cross the finish line for seventh position.

The Pirelli full wet weather tyres worked really well for me, they allowed me to work my way up to seventh place which I was really pleased with considering I started the race from 33rd place!!!

It was a frustrating weekend for me but considering my race was more or less over because of the brake problem the red flag worked in my favour and allowed me to get back out there.

I chose the full wets because I was to start from the back of the grid and there was nothing to lose in taking a gamble. I looked out the back of the garage and saw the black clouds were forming and it was looking very grey so I opted for full wets. At one stage it was too dry and I was having a lot of moments. I thought about pulling in sooner than crash but decided to give it one more lap.

Then it started mizzling and I was able to work my way up the field to finish seventh. That’s given me nine championship points and set me on the right track after not getting onto the scoreboard at Brands. I am normally happy with a top 10 finish so seventh is great for me.

The next round is scheduled for Donington Park on Whit Monday, May 25th when I'll will be looking for another strong finish to add to the points tally.

Cheers,   Marty #77

To Eager A Start For 2009 Season!!!!

 MARTY NUTT – BRANDS HATCH

20th place in the opening round of the Fuchs-Silkolene Supersport championship at Brands Hatch on Easter Monday wasn't exactly what i hope for!!

But the result doesn’t tell the whole story as, starting from a fourth row grid position in 16th place and was hoping to get away to a good start to stay in touch with the leaders. Unfortunately I was too enthusiastic to get underway and jumped the start ( by a mile )  and got my first ever ride-through penalty since i started racing!!!.

As the race got underway I was too quick off the line and moved straight into 12th place before being brought in to complete the ride through penalty. Once back out on track I rejoined over 10 seconds behind the rest of the field with a lot of work to do playing catch-up. A points finish was certainly not on the cards but I got my head down and concentrated on reeling in the riders ahead.

By lap nine I was on the tail of the back markers and began to make progress through from 32nd place to complete the 25-laps in 20th position.

It was a good learning excercise for me but I was so far behind it was a near impossible task but I decided to go for it and see if I could catch up.

If nothing else the bike had a good run out and my lap times proved that I could have run with the top ten if only I hadn’t messed up at the start.

The championship moves to Cheshire next and the undulating circuit of Oulton Park on Bank Holiday Monday, May 4th when I'll will be looking for a strong qualifying result to be in a good position to stay with the leading riders and secure my first set of championship points of the new campaign.

Cheers,  Marty #77.
